The last day of school for the 2011-12 school year has been moved from June 5 to June 7, 2012. Please mark your calendars accordingly. |
Announcements Friday Exam/ Common Assessment/ Packet DueOn Friday 1/ 27, the students will be assessed on what they know from the current unit (Ch. 5). I will also collect their current packet of openers. Lecture notes were optional for this unit, so any notes turned in with the packet will receive additional points. Much of the information should have been a review from last year. We are including a component of life science based on the fossil record, radiometric dating, relative and absolute age in addition to other evidence. The powerpoint used to present the information was focused on images to reinforce the main ideas and show examples. Openers that should be included in the packet are: 1/9 Code of Misconduct/ Lake of Fire (16 points), 1/10 Wolfman (10 points), 1/18 Finding Relative Age/ Grandest Canyon (17 points) , and 1/25 Radioactive Dating/ Contiuous Process (13 Points). Be sure to see me before Friday if you were absent for any openers or needed more time so that I can give you a copy for completion. Start the new semester off right by earning as many points as you can. Good Luck!
End of Semester 1The end of the 2nd quarter (1st semester) is quickly approaching. Students will take the common assessment on Thursday of this week. The semester final is scheduled for Wed. Dec. 14th. We will wrap up our current lab presentations and packet 4b before break. Do your best to finish strong, remember we have 3 weeks to recover during the holidays.
Packet 3 Due / Exam Friday 11/4On Friday 11/4 students will turn in their most recent packet. It should contain lecture notes as well as a completed outline. The 5 openers for this unit will also be collected. The openers were titled Life On Mars (10/17: 20 points), Chemical Composition of Cells/ The Cell & It's Environment (10/20: 30 points), Photosynthesis/ Chlorophyll (10/28: 19 points), Searching For the Origins of Life (10/31:15 points), and Out of Sight (11/1: 10 points). Check with me prior to Friday to get any assignments that need to be made up or completed. The exam will focus on cell parts and their functions as well as mitosis (cell division). Good Luck!
Cell Part Quiz (Wed) Exam/Packet 2 Due (Fri)As we progress through the current information in Science, students will be given a quiz on Wed 10/12 dealing with the parts and functions of the cell. Students may want to review their notes or pages R-54 & R-55 in their textbooks. The quiz will be matching so both the parts and functions will be shown. Students will need to match them up. Our next exam will be on Friday 10/14 covering the current information in the lecture notes. Packet #2 will also be collected on Friday. There are a total of 5 openers that should be included with the packet when it is turned in. Study hard!
Exam #1 Packet #1 Due 9/15Students will take their first exam in Science on Thursday 9/15. Their first packet will be collected the same day. The packet should include the lecture notes and the openers listed on the front board in class. The lecture notes are also posted in class. The test is written from the lecture notes and a class file (Science Review Information) is provided on this home page to help students know what to study for the test. Failure to turn in a packet will negatively impact a students grade so those who received a progress report will want to make sure that they turn in a completed packet and study for the exam. Good Luck!
